Working with Children

Each child’s mind is a place of great richness, talent, creativity and sensitivity. All of which must be nurtured and encouraged and given the opportunity to develop into a joyful way of being.

The Owl Company Aims:

  • To devise a series of value-based workshops to raise the children’s level of awareness in personal and social areas.
  • To offer an opportunity for children to express their feelings and concepts openly and freely.
  • To encourage the following values:
    • Discrimination: Making right choices & awareness of consequences.
    • Self-control: Of mind and actions.
    • Confidence: Belief in self.
    • Focus: One-pointedness & will power.
    • Empathy: Compassion & kindness
    • Acceptance: Positive, cheerful attitude towards life & circumstances.
  • To encourage imaginative thinking, self-expression and creativity.
  • To develop deeper personal and social awareness.
  • To provide a supportive environment where children can explore their own personal development and inner resourcefulness in a non-threatening way and have fun in the process.

The workshops are designed to be all-inclusive i.e. to encourage children to observe their own actions and reactions to others, to their environment, meaning their own immediate social structure, and to the world at large. They are also designed to allow students to participate at their own level of comfort and accept everyone as being equal creatively regardless of academic or social ability or background.

The Use of Drama

Drama is play and it is through play that children learn about their place in the world and their relationship with others. It is through play that they gain the confidence to communicate effectively.

Drama in education is a tool to develop each child individually and encourage a broader social awareness.

The drama class is where you give permission to the child to experiment with life and their role in life. It is where you give the child permission to express and explore their feelings and emotions in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment.
